North Korea has between 80 and 120 nuclear weapons, South Korea’s defense minister said today, a few hours after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Pyongyang has 57.
“We generally estimate that this number is somewhere between 80 and 120,” Ahn Kyu-beok said, addressing the National Assembly, while refusing to give a specific figure.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) appears to be showing interest in U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposals to resume dialogue, according to South Korea, according to Ahn Kyu-bak.
Speaking before the National Assembly, Mr. Ahn noted that there are signs that North Korea is interested in Mr. Trump’s overtures regarding the possibility of resuming talks between Washington and Pyongyang.
Mr. Ahn declined, however, answering lawmakers’ questions about whether the South Korean government is aware of any behind-the-scenes contacts between the United States and North Korea aimed atprepare for a possible meeting.
