The Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded on Thursday to Canadian poet, essayist, and classicist Anne Carson, who offers a contemporary take on mysticism and antiquity through her writings on love, desire, and despair.
The 76-year-old Carson was honored “for her bold and inventive work, which, in a playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature,” the Swedish Academy stated in a press release.
