At least five people were injured in a fire that broke out Friday morning in a 21-story building in Berlin, with one woman forced to jump out of a window to reach a firefighter who was two floors below.
The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m., local time, in the Friedrichshain district of the German capital. According to the Daily Mail, it started in an apartment on the 11th floor and then spread to the 12th.
Video from the scene shows a woman who has left the apartment and is standing on a narrow ledge of the building, about 35 meters above the ground.
A short distance from where the woman is standing, flames can be seen coming out of a window, while thick smoke has gathered on the building’s facade.
At first, the woman tries to hold onto the outside of the building and climb down toward a firefighter, who is standing about two stories below on the basket of a ladder truck.
As she attempts to climb down, her feet slip, and she realizes she cannot safely reach the basket. She eventually lets herself fall toward the firefighter, who manages to catch her.
