New Russian strikes in Odessa, in southwestern Ukraine, killed two people and injured eight others on the night of Thursday into Friday, Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Filatov announced.
“A missile struck an apartment building. Unfortunately, two people lost their lives. According to the latest information, we have eight injured so far, including two children,” Filatov said via Telegram.
“Apartment buildings, a place of worship, a school, vehicles, and other civilian infrastructure sustained damage,” he added.
“Among the victims is a woman who was walking in a park with her children at the time of the attack. The children survived and are receiving the necessary medical care,” the Ukrainian Emergency Service later clarified via Telegram.
On Wednesday, the Odessa region was targeted by missiles and unmanned aerial attack systems for the fifth consecutive day, with local authorities reporting three dead and three others injured.
Russian attacks on the city in recent days—a major Ukrainian port—in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes against commercial ships, particularly in the Sea of Azov, have reduced grain exports from the port by one-third, the Financial Times reported yesterday, citing data from the maritime security firm Ambrey.
