Russia's largest oil refinery in Moscow, owned by Gazprom Neft, has halted crude oil processing following fires that broke out in the main crude distillation units after a Ukrainian drone attack on Sunday.
Three industry sources reported this to Reuters.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, in a post on Telegram on Sunday morning, simply stated that an industrial facility within the refinery’s grounds sustained damage during a drone attack.
Sources told Reuters that both main crude oil distillation units were engulfed in flames after the drones crashed inside the facility. They added that it will take several weeks to repair the damage and restore operations.
Gazprom Neft did not comment on the matter, despite a request from Reuters.

The refinery’s AVT-6 unit has a production capacity of 21,400 metric tons per day, accounting for 54% of total capacity, while the EURO+ crude oil processing unit has a production capacity of 18,800 metric tons per day, covering the remainder.
It should be noted, however, that the fuels produced by the Moscow refinery have not been available for sale on the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange since September 21.
In 2024, the refinery processed 11.6 million metric tons of crude oil, or approximately 230,000 barrels per day, and produced 2.9 million metric tons of gasoline, 3.2 million metric tons of diesel, and 1.3 million metric tons of bitumen.

Trump: They’ve Lost Control
Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated that Russia “has lost control” of its diesel industry and reiterated his call for an end to Russia’s war with Ukraine.
“Russia has, unfortunately, lost control of its diesel industry due to the war with Ukraine. A large number of its diesel refineries have been blown up and are, at least temporarily, out of operation,” the U.S. president emphasized in a social media post, one day before his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
“This ridiculous and endless war with Ukraine must end,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Russia, through its Ministry of Defense, emphasized that “in response to the Kyiv regime’s attacks against civilian targets on Russian territory, the Russian armed forces will continue and intensify their bombardments using high-precision weapons against military targets in Kyiv.”
