Family tragedy in the U.S.: Veterinarian killed his parents, his son, and his partner

After the horrific mass murder, he took his own life

A small town in Illinois, U.S., is in shock following a family tragedy perpetrated by veterinarian Brian Schmidt, who, after killing his parents, his son, and his partner, then took his own life with the same weapon.

Schmidt, who ran the family cat clinic—which has since closed— was identified as the perpetrator of the quadruple murder at a home in the small town of Madeline, which belonged to him and his parents, 77-year-old Rebecca Schmidt, and 80-year-old James Schmidt.

Schmidt’s 22-year-old son, McLean, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head, and his long-time partner, 37-year-old Nicole Heiser, was murdered in the same manner.

After killing his parents, his son, and his partner, Schmidt, according to CBS News, committed suicide by putting the gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger.

According to police sources, Schmidt had left “multiple suicide notes” in his home and in his car.

Schmidt had never been in trouble with the police, and authorities are trying to determine the motive behind the mass murder committed on Sunday morning, with neighbors believing that the gunshots they heard were firecrackers being set off in anticipation of a Chicago Bears game.

The five bodies were discovered shortly before midnight, when the perpetrator’s 44-year-old sister, Kimberly Schmidt, called from her home in California asking authorities to check on her parents, as she had not heard from them.
