U.S. armed forces launched new attacks against Iran overnight, according to an announcement by the command responsible for the Middle East region (U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM).
A CENTCOM statement via X reports that U.S. forces “launched a new round of attacks against Iran at 3:00 p.m. (Eastern Time in the U.S., 10:00 p.m. in Cyprus), for the seventh consecutive night,” with the aim of further degrading the capabilities of the Iranian military.”
In a subsequent update, the U.S. military announced upon completion of the attack that it had targeted “surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons depots, and naval capabilities.”
According to the state news agency IRNA, the U.S. strikes killed three people and wounded eight in Hormozgan Province in southern Iran.
The Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that a Thai-flagged merchant ship came under fire from the Revolutionary Guards when it attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz today, disregarding their orders.
Citing a well-informed source, Tasnim reports that the ship “attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without complying with instructions and without obtaining permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.” So far, there is no information on whether the ship sustained damage or if there are any casualties.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command denied the claim by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that two oil tankers exploded after passing through a mined routenear the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian military, for its part, reported that it struck U.S. military targets in Kuwait and Jordan in response to the U.S. attacks, according to a statement broadcast by the Iranian state radio and television network. In Kuwait, Iranian forces targeted an ammunition depot at Al-Adiri Camp, the headquarters buildings and ammunition depots at the Ali Al-Salem base, and several connecting bridges. In Jordan, fuel tanks at the Al-Azraq base were also targeted, according to a report by the state broadcaster on Telegram. Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had attacked a U.S. drone depot in Bahrain and destroyed Bahrain’s main artificial intelligenceusing ballistic missiles and drones.
The Jordanian military, for its part, announced that it had shot down 10 Iranian missiles without causing any casualties or damage.
Following the April ceasefire, hostilities between Washington and Tehran resumed on July 7, following attacks on commercial ships in the Gulf that were attributed to Iran. The attacks that followed undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war.
