An Austrian tour bus carrying high school students from Germany collided early this morning with a delivery van in the eastern Netherlands, resulting in injuries to about 20 people, eight of whom were taken to the hospital, according to the Dutch police.
“Some of the injured who have been taken to the hospital are in serious condition,” the Gelderland provincial police said in a post on X.
Others sustained minor injuries.
The accident occurred around 4 a.m. on the A28 highway near the town of Wezep, which is located about 100 kilometers east of Amsterdam.
According to a police spokesperson, there were more than 50 people on the bus.
Among the injured is the driver of the delivery truck.
Following the accident, the A28 highway was closed in both directions.
Photos released to the public show firefighters helping the students exit the bus through the roof. Many of the bus passengers were injured by the vehicle’s shattered windows.
