Preparations are in full swing in Ankara for the NATO Summit on July 7 and 8, with the Turkish government deploying a total of 56,288 security personnel for the event.
The head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, Burhanettin Duran, stated that the Summit will highlight Turkey’s “diplomatic clout” and its strengthened role within the Alliance.
Leaders of the 32 NATO member states, invited heads of state, approximately 100 ministers, senior diplomats, and representatives of international organizations.
To ensure the event’s security, 48,841 police officers and 7,447 gendarmes will be deployed, while 639 personnel will conduct 24-hour online patrols to counter cyber threats and online criminal activity.
Nearly 3,000 journalists from Turkey and abroad have applied for accreditation. A press center with 1,600 workstations, approximately 100 live broadcast points, and 40 editing suites will be set up in the Presidential Palace Library. TRT will broadcast the summit using 80 cameras from 26 different locations.
Duran also noted that Turkey aims to meet NATO’s defense spending target of “3.5% plus 1.5%” by the end of 2030, while describing the Turkish defense industry as a “strategic force multiplier” for the Alliance.
The Esenboğa and Mürted airports, as well as an airbase in the Ankara area, will be used for the movements of foreign missions.
