"Cyprus Is Not Threatening Anyone": Iran's Threats of a Strike and the Government's Response

Nicosia is playing down the situation while at the same time remaining in contact with Iran
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Iran is reportedly considering the possibility of a conflict that would extend beyond the Middle East and reach Europe, which, under the threat of a new round of hostilities with the United States, is putting all its options on the table.

This was revealed to the Financial Times by two sources from the theocratic regime, who indicated that…
“We will
defend ourselves at all costs. Should Donald Trump escalate the war, Iran has considered the possibility of attacking American military targets in Europe.”

And specifically in the southeastern part of the Old Continent.

According to the report, among the options available to Iranian forces are U.S. military facilities in Bulgaria, which has allowed U.S. fighter jets to use the Bezmer Air Base for refueling, as well as strategic infrastructure in Cyprus.

One of the sources stated that Cyprus, where a British air base was struck by a drone in March, was also among the potential targets for retaliation in the event of any new U.S. attack.

In fact, to illustrate the potential danger, the British media outlet maps the capabilities of the Islamic Republic’s arsenal and—as you can see — Cyprus lies within the range of Iran’s “Shahab-3” missiles, which can strike targets 1,000 kilometers away.

He also points out that the Revolutionary Guards have threatened the United Kingdom, stating that any British base used by the Americans to launch an attack on Iranian territory will be considered a legitimate target.
“The

Islamic Republic of Iran is ready… depending on the enemy’s actions and aggression… to inflict an even heavier defeat upon it.”
Mohammad Galibaf – Deputy Iranian
Negotiator

When asked how real the threat to Europe is, internationally renowned analysts and researchers provided answers to the Financial Times.

“The threat is real, but limited. Iran could launch medium-range ballistic missiles at southern and southeastern Europe; however, as the distance increases, so do the technical difficulties, limiting the effectiveness of such strikes.”
Siddharth Kaushal – Researcher at the Royal United Services Institute

Nicosia also appears
reassuring, with sources from the Presidential Office downplaying the report by referring to recycled reports from the past and hypothetical scenarios cited by anonymous Iranians. The message is clear: “Cyprus is not threatening anyone.”

Government sources

The Republic of Cyprus maintains open diplomatic channels with Iran. Within the framework of these contacts, the actual facts, positions, and role of our country are conveyed with clarity and precision. Cyprus chooses diplomacy, stability, and de-escalation. This has been and remains our role in the region.

A Complete Dead End

Chanting “Kill Trump,” thousands of Iranians flooded the streets of Tehran for the memorial service of their assassinated Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, 40 days after his funeral.

A sea of angry people, as the impasse with the United States solidifies.

Donald Trump is hardening his stance and, while declaring that there will be no more dialogue with Iran, he posts this image depicting the Strait of Hormuz as American territory.

This infuriates the Iranians, who label him a clown who won’t be able to pull a rabbit out of a hat.

“Until the U.S. lifts the naval blockade… unfreezes our assets… lifts the oil sanctions… and ends the threats and military attacks… the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen.”
Mohammad Ghalibaf – Iran’s Deputy Chief Negotiator

To
top it all off, Tehran’s failed attempt to strike ships off the coast of Abu Dhabi with ballistic missiles, an incident that forced the Emirates to sever all economic ties with Iran. A country that otherwise proclaims that…
“We
don’t want a ceasefire. We want an end to the war.”
Abbas Araghchi – Iranian
Foreign Minister
