Diesel fuel, which is used in trucks and tractors in the U.S., reached a record high of $5.85 per gallon (3.8 liters) today, according to data from the American Automobile Association, which serves as a benchmark.

The previous record was set in 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Energy prices have skyrocketed since the U.S. launched a war against Iran, with Tehran retaliating by blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important maritime route for the transport of hydrocarbons.

At U.S. gas stations, the price of gasoline has also risen again recently, with an average price of $4.15 per gallon.

This remains below the record high for this category of $5.05, set in 2022, according to the Association.

The war in the Middle East, which is unpopular among Americans, is putting pressure on President Trump’s administration just a few weeks before the midterm elections.
