Maritime trade between Iran and Qatar has resumed after a hiatus of about five months, Iran’s commercial attaché in Doha told state media on Sunday.
An interim agreement between Tehran and Washington, signed last month, announced the end of hostilities following a four-month conflict and called for a return to pre-war maritime traffic in the Gulf, although passage to and from the Gulf remains a point of contention.
Abbas Abdolkhani stated that shipping between the port of Dayyer in Iran and the port of Al Ruwais in Qatar had resumed following coordination between the Iranian embassy inand the Qatari authorities.
The two geographically opposite ports primarily serve regional trade. The port of Dayyer was hit several times during the war.
In late June, an official from the Iranian Trade Promotion Organization told state media that Iranian goods were finally being cleared through customs at the Jebel Ali port in the United Arab, the largest in the region, signaling a gradual resumption of trade between the two sides of the Gulf.
