A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck this morning in Batalgazi, in the province of Malatya in southeastern Turkey, and was felt in neighboring provinces without causing any damage or casualties, according to an announcement by the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD).
“There is no indication of any problematic situation following the 5.0-magnitude earthquake that occurred at 06:20 (local time, 07:20 Cyprus time) in the Batalgazi district of Malatya Province, which was felt in the provinces of Malatya, Elazig, Adiyaman, Tunceli, and Sanliurfa. “Our teams continue to operate on the ground,” AFAD noted.
“We have not identified any negative developments, but we are evaluating all reports,” said Turkish Minister of Environment and Urban Development Murat Kurum.
In 2023, southeastern Turkey was struck by a deadly earthquake that claimed the lives of more than 53,000 people and caused devastation in many cities across the region.
