A search and rescue operation for migrants took place on Sunday morning in the waters southeast of Crete, coordinated by the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED).
According to initial reports, a Frontex aircraft spotted a boat carrying approximately 47 foreign nationals, about 55 nautical miles southeast of Kalo Limena, south of Heraklion.
A Frontex vessel rushed to the area and safely rescued all the passengers.
The 47 migrants are being transported to the port of Kala Limena, where they are expected to undergo the standard registration and identification procedures by the competent authorities.
At the time of the operation, weather conditions were relatively favorable, with northwesterly winds of 4 Beaufort, which facilitated the safe completion of the rescue operation.
