The death toll from the twin devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has been revised upward and now stands at 2,595, acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced Thursday evening, assuring that “no one will be buried in mass graves.”

“We have 2,595 deaths to date,” Ms. Rodrigues said during a press conference, emphasizing that the search for the missing continues.
The authorities are avoiding giving specific numbers regarding the missing. The UN, however, estimates that the number could be as high as 50,000.
