“No lie by Benjamin Netanyahu changes the fact that an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against him remains outstanding,” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Thursday, following the Israeli prime minister’s speech to the UN General Assembly.
Earlier this year, the mayor, a member of the Democratic Party’s left wing, had said he was considering whether and to what extent the head of the Israeli government could be arrested when he traveled to the U.S. capital for the General Assembly.
He later admitted that he was not in a position to execute the arrest warrant for Prime Minister Netanyahu, who faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war in the Gaza Strip.
