Israel is reportedly considering the possibility of military action against Iran once again, according to Israeli and American media, at a time when tensions between Washington and Tehran have reached a critical point. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Israeli intelligence agencies have passed on new information to the U.S. regarding an Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump.
A group of officials in Israel wants the country to get involved in the new escalation between the U.S. and Iran and to resume strikes against the Islamic Republic, but are awaiting the “green light” from U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the Israeli public broadcaster Kan.
The report, which does not cite specific sources, states that officials in Tel Aviv believe the tit-for-tat attacks between the United States and Iran will continue in the coming days.
The New York Post is also reporting similar information, citing a source close to the Netanyahu government, according to which Israel is interested in participating in future strikes and fully resuming military operations against Tehran.
“We are ready to do it again, if necessary,” the anonymous source said in a statement reportedly made on Wednesday, before the U.S. launched its strikes against Iran.
The same source added that, although Israel “does not wish to return to the days when civilians had to run to shelters,” it does not intend to “ignore what is happening in Iran.” “If that is the price we have to pay, we will endure this situation,” the source noted.
Reports of a New Iranian Plot to Assassinate Trump
Meanwhile, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Israel reportedly briefed the United States on new intelligence from its own agencies regarding an Iranian plot to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump.
The newspaper, citing sources familiar with the matter, reports that this information was passed from Israel to the U.S., though it is unclear when the information was shared or through which channel.
The Wall Street Journal notes that Iran has repeatedly issued public threats to assassinate Trump following the 2020 U.S. operation, in which General Qasem Soleimani, head of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, was killed.
According to the report, calls for the death of the U.S. president are also appearing at the ongoing mourning ceremonies for Iran’s late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Trump, who has been the target of several assassination attempts—including the 2024 attack, when a bullet slightly wounded him in the ear—spoke this week about the threats against him.
“I’m on every list. I saw this morning that I’m on every single one of their lists. So far, I guess I’ve been a little lucky, but that might not last much longer,” the U.S. president said.
