Over the past hour, the U.S. military has launched a wave of strikes against Iranian missile and air defense systems, as well as small vessels, at various locations around the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, one worker was killed and two others were injured.
As reported by state media, the worker was killed while “performing his duties,” with no further information provided regarding his identity or the exact location of the strike. Two other workers were injured and taken to the hospital.
The reports come shortly after accounts of explosions at the port of Bandar Abbas and in the waters off the island of Qeshm, in yet another sign of the ongoing escalation in the Persian Gulf region.
Iranian strikes in Gulf
regions Earlier, Iran attacked Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates, targeting U.S. military facilities.
Specifically, the Iranian news agency Fars reports that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked Kuwait with unmanned aerial vehicles and that the targets were U.S. HIMARS rocket launchers as well as their ammunition depots.
In recent hours, Oman issued a statement saying it had summoned the Iranian ambassador to protest the attacks.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement, characterizing the attacks against the country as a flagrant violation of its sovereignty, as well as a violation of international law.
The ministry added in its statement that the continuation of these aggressive actions constitutes a dangerous escalation that will complicate efforts to de-escalate the situation.
Furthermore, Qatar stated that it holds Iran legally responsible for the aggressive action and for any consequences arising from it.
