Tehran is threatening new strikes against anyone who supports U.S. forces, claiming they are legitimate targets. The announcement came just hours after tensions flared up again in the Middle East, with attacks from both the U.S. and Iran, and with Donald Trump declaring at the NATO summit in Ankarathat the ceasefire agreement is no longer in effect.
In a statement released by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Iran’s “Hatem al-Anbiya” Central Command—a command unit within the Iranian armed forces—stated: “Any source of support for the aggressive U.S. military, in its aggressive actions against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, will be a legitimate target for the Armed Forces.”
The threats were issued just hours after the U.S. struck more than 80 “targets” in Iran and Tehran responded with 85 drone and missile attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain.
The strikes followed three attacks within a 24-hour period on three ships in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the British maritime security agency UKMTO, with the U.S., Qatar, and Saudi Arabia blaming Iran for two of the attacks. However, Tehran has not claimed responsibility.
