The U.S. military stated that it launched a new wave of strikes against Iran at 1:00 p.m. Cyprus time today.
“The strikes are designed to further degrade the military capabilities used by Iranian forces to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” said the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for the Middle East.
At least 30 civilians have been killed in U.S. attacks in southern Iran in recent days, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said today.
“We express our condolences to the bereaved families and honor the memory of the deceased. The government will stand by the people with all its might,” she wrote on X.
In a separate statement, Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour told X that more than 260 people have been injured since the latest wave of attacks began a week ago. Of those, 222 have been discharged from the hospital, he added.
