Riyadh International Airport came under attack again on Sunday, with Saudi authorities reporting injuries, less than 24 hours after the deadly missile strike that claimed the lives of 12 people, as the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis escalates dangerously.

The spokesperson for the Saudi-led military coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government, General Turki al-Maliki, stated in a press release that “an attack using an unidentified missile was carried out against Passenger Terminal 4 at King Khalid International Airport, causing a fire.”

Air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile in the area of King Khalid International Airport, the coalition spokesperson also stated in another announcement posted on Twitter.

According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation announced that it received reports of injuries from the new attack on Riyadh International Airport, without specifying their number.
The authority added that an assessment of the damage and a security check of the airport’s facilities are currently underway.

The sharp escalation on the new front of the war with Iran heightens the risk of greater U.S. military involvement, as U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he is considering participating in operations against the rebels.

The latest attack came shortly after the Houthis announced that the airport they control in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, had come under attack again. The rebels blamed Saudi Arabia, though they did not provide further details.

Saturday’s missile attack on Riyadh International Airport was the deadliest to occur in a Gulf Arab country since the start of the war with Iran. More than 300 people were injured, some of whom are in critical condition.
