U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled the collectible passports featuring his portrait yesterday, Friday, which will be released in limited quantities as part of the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
“The new U.S. passport, which says: ‘Welcome, but be good,’” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
The passport features a stern-looking President Trump leaning on his desk, with the text of the U.S. Declaration of Independence in the background and his signature at the bottom. It appears to be based on a portrait taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok.
The second page features a painting depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, with the caption “United States of America 250.”
The White House shared the image with the caption “Patriotic Passport.”
To date, no sitting U.S. president has ever been featured on a passport.
The announcement is part of a series of decisions aimed at leaving Trump’s personal mark on iconic U.S. buildings and symbols, drawing criticism for personality cult-like behavior.
Donald Trump’s signature will also appear on commemorative banknotes, a first for a sitting U.S. president.
