Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, accusing the United States and Israel of his assassination.
In a statement broadcast by the state-affiliated Fars News Agency, Mohtaba Khamenei stated that revenge is a demand of the Iranian people and must be carried out.
“Revenge is a demand of our nation and must be carried out at all costs,” the statement attributed to the new Supreme Leader reads.
In the same message, addressing his late father, Khamenei pledged that there would be retribution for his own blood and that of those killed in the two military conflicts. “We pledge to avenge your pure blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two wars against the criminals and dishonorable murderers,” the message states.
Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency Fars cited a source stating that no negotiations will take place as long as the United States does not change its positions.
This stance leaves open the question of whether—and under what conditions—contacts between the two sides will proceed, at a time when the Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of international concerns due to its importance for global trade and energy transportation.
