Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the podium at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and his supporters in the gallery gave him a standing ovation, while a number of delegations on the floor below walked out.
In response to this, the Israeli prime minister lashed out, calling on the “moral cowards,” as he put it, to leave the hall.
Netanyahu began his speech by addressing Iran and its nuclear program, noting that Israel had prevented Iran from threatening the world. “The destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities was difficult,” he said. “But for me, it was one of the easiest decisions I’ve had to make as prime minister. If I hadn’t done it, we would be dead.”
Netanyahu also said that Israel had defended many of the countries that walked out of the room and that many of their leaders had thanked him privately. “It’s hard to imagine a more incredible hypocrisy,” he added.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, lashed out at the United Kingdom and France for accusing Israel of colonialism, pointing to those countries’ long history of colonialism.
Prime Minister Netanyahu, referring to October 7, 2023, said it was “the darkest day in Israel’s history.” He highlighted the “joy” with which Hamas terrorists killed neighbors across the border in Gaza. “Can you imagine such a monstrosity?” “Our enemies expected us to crumble. Instead, we rose up and fought like lions,” he noted.
“The remaining terrorists are desperately trying to regroup” and are attempting to murder the Jewish people every day, especially in the West Bank. “None of this is covered in the international press or on social media,” he claimed. Speaking at the UN, the Israeli prime minister stressed that the international media focuses on a “handful of juvenile delinquents” who are responsible for settler violence in the West Bank.
Referring to French President Emmanuel Macron, who claimed that Hamas “never took action” in the West Bank, he said that a French citizen was killed in the area before Yom Kippur.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his “bold leadership” and cooperation in the fight against the “barbarians,” and added that the U.S. and Israel acted together to “save civilization.” They also cooperated to bring back hostages from Gaza, he noted.
Referring to Iran’s munitions, he wondered what a one-metric-ton ballistic missile would do if it struck the UN. It would wipe out the complex, he said. “I salute the courage of the people of Israel. I salute the courage of our brave soldiers—Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Druze. The most moral army in the world, the Israel Defense Forces,” he noted.
Referring to the growing international criticism of Israel, Netanyahu stated that Qatar is spending billions to “spread lies” about Israel by funding U.S. universities and supporting news agencies such as Al Jazeera. “They are brainwashing young minds to hate Israel, to hate America, to hate the West.”
He also directed his criticism at Turkey, saying it is the last country to harbor Hamas and spread lies.
Turkey’s “tyrant” Recep Tayyip Erdogan has killed thousands of Kurds, has illegally occupied northern Cyprus, threatens Greece, and imprisons journalists. “Every day he calls for the destruction of Israel. He says he will be the ruler of Jerusalem,” Netanyahu continued. “No, sir, you will not. It is our city.” Turkish-Israeli relations have collapsed since the October 7 attack, and many Israeli officials view Ankara as a regional threat.
