The Revolutionary Guards announced tonight that they had targeted a U.S. unmanned naval vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has closed off since the war broke out.
“The Revolutionary Guards Navy targeted an unmanned surface vessel, a Saildrone Explorer, in the Strait of Hormuz,” they reported via the Sepah News website.
These vessels are equipped with radar and cameras and are part of Task Force 59 of the U.S. 5th Fleet, which is based in Bahrain.
The Revolutionary Guards had announced on Tuesday that they had seized another U.S. unmanned surface vessel in the same area. The U.S. military subsequently claimed that one of its vessels had suffered a malfunction, without specifying whether it was the same one.
