The oil spill has contaminated a 12-kilometer stretch of coastline near Ras Mandraka, while the island of Mazirah remains unaffected, according to the Oman News Agency (ONA), as efforts continue to address the pollution caused by oil leaking from the tanker Caroline Bezengi, which ran aground in the Gulf of Oman.
The oil began approaching the coast of Oman on Wednesday after spreading across the sea for weeks.
The Environmental Agency announced that cleanup operations are continuing, while the oil slick is now moving toward the open sea.
The oil leaking from the tanker, which is stranded near a protected natural area in Oman, covers an area of 400 square kilometers, the Omani government announced on Monday.
