A man was wounded by police gunfire on Tuesday night (October 6) outside the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden, because he made threatening gestures toward them, according to Swedish authorities.
The police reported that they were called to the palace due to the presence of an aggressive man who was armed, though they did not specify what type of weapon he was carrying. Police officers shot him, and the suspect was taken to a hospital with injuries. His life is not in danger, a Swedish police spokesperson clarified.
According to the newspaper Aftonbladet, the man was wielding a knife and moved threateningly toward the palace guards, who initially attempted to subdue him using a stun gun (Taser). The man then urged the guards to kill him.
Police officers who rushed to the scene shot him in the legs and subdued him, according to the report.
The Stockholm Palace is the official residence of King Carl XVI Gustaf and one of the most important landmarks in the Swedish capital.
