Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days to remove a nodule from his lung, as he himself announced today, Sunday, October 11.
The 71-year-old head of the Roman Catholic Church stated that doctors detected the nodule during recent medical examinations, clarifying that it is in a very early stage.
The announcement was made during the customary Sunday prayer at the Vatican, in the presence of the faithful who had gathered in St. Peter’s Square. Pope Leo thanked the faithful for their support and asked them to pray for his health ahead of the surgery.
