U.S. President Donald Trump stated today that he would strike Iran very hard if it turns out that Tehran was involved in yesterday’s incident on a flydubai flight.
The flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, after the co-pilot stabbed the pilot and attempted to crash the aircraft, according to Israeli authorities and passenger accounts.
“They’re going to get hit very hard, don’t worry,” the U.S. president replied when asked by a reporter about the U.S. response should Tehran be found responsible.
During a conversation with members of the press at the White House, Trump said he believes Iran is involved, though he was not categorical. “I would say the answer is ‘yes,’ based on what I’m being told, but we’re looking into it,” he said.
In an interview with Time magazine, published today, Donald Trump assessed that it is “likely” that attacks against Iran will intensify after the November midterm elections in the U.S.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon plans to send an aircraft carrier and other warships, transporting approximately 10,000 military personnel to the Gulf region. Their deployment is reportedly scheduled for late November.
There are already two U.S. aircraft carriers in the Middle East. It is unclear whether their number will increase or if one of the carriers currently there will be replaced.
