The co-pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073 attempted to carry out a “terrorist” attack during the flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel, the Attorney General of the United Arab Emirates announced today, as reported by the country’s state news agency, WAM.

The co-pilot attacked the pilot inside the cockpit with an axe and attempted to take control of the aircraft, the attorney general added.
Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the incident, the co-pilot’s motives and any potential connections, as well as to examine physical and digital evidence, he noted.
For her part, a spokesperson for the Emirates airline stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, adding that she was unable to comment further.
