Russian President Vladimir Putin stated today that the territories in eastern Ukraine claimed by Moscow are “historically Russian land,” thereby increasing the risk to the talks aimed at resolving the conflict.
He also stated that any future trilateral talks involving Russia, the United States, and Ukraine should focus on security guarantees for both Russia and Ukraine, adding that broader European security issues should also be discussed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated tonight, for his part, that Starlink’s speed has not yet been restored in the country, adding that he hopes to discuss the matter with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the coming days.
Zelenskyy said his country is ready for peace talks during the G20 summit to be hosted in the U.S., but so far has not received an invitation.
“One issue is clearly at stake—forcing Russia to end this war,” he added while speaking to reporters in Kyiv. “It is possible, with the mediation of President Donald Trump and our partners. I think anything is possible, and we can count on a meeting in Florida during the G20 summit,” he concluded.
