The Pakistani government announced that yesterday, Sunday, it launched ground and air operations against "targets" in Afghanistan, specifically hideouts that it claims were being used by "terrorists," including the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), killing 29 of them.
Intelligence Minister Ataullah Tarar reported last night via X that a ground operation was conducted along the border and airstrikes were launched in the same area, resulting in the destruction of three “targets” in the provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar.
He referred to the operations as retaliation for recent terrorist acts on Pakistani territory, including an attack in Karachi in which three members of the security forces were killed.

The airstrikes carried out overnight by Pakistan in eastern Afghanistan killed or injured “dozens of civilians, including women and children,” Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the de facto government, said today.
The bombings struck areas in the provinces of Paktika, Paktia, and Kunar, confirmed Mr. Mujahid, who described the new airstrikes as a “cowardly attack,” a “crime,” and an “act of barbarism.”
The Afghan television network Tolo News reported at least 35 dead, all of whom it said were “civilians,” and another 40 wounded in just one of the provinces that were bombed, citing a police spokesperson in Paktia.

Pakistan, a country with a nuclear arsenal, and Afghanistan, where the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, have been exchanging attacks since late last year. Islamabad accuses Kabul of harboring extremists who carry out attacks on Pakistani soil. The de facto Afghan authorities reject the accusation.
Although a temporary ceasefire had been announced between the two sides, in late February Pakistan spoke of “open war” and has since launched a series of deadly airstrikes, targeting, among other places, the Afghan capital, Kabul.
