The video shows the 17-year-old standing next to the teacher’s desk, initially appearing to fidget nervously with her hair. A few seconds later, she pulls out a knife and suddenly lunges at the teacher.
The teacher struggled to take the knife away from her
De Almeida anticipates the attack and manages to dodge the student’s first move, before a fierce struggle ensues in the classroom as she tries to wrestle the knife away.
According to the footage, the 17-year-old attempts to strike her again, even near her face, while the teacher desperately tries to protect herself.
The teacher eventually manages to leave the classroom, but the student follows her for a short distance before the situation is brought under control.
The 17-year-old was arrested—“I didn’t like the teacher,” she told the police
The student was arrested at the scene by the police. According to the Pará Police report, she reportedly stated that she attacked the teacher because “she didn’t like her.”
The attack occurred shortly after the student’s exam had been graded. A member of the teacher’s family told the Brazilian news outlet G1 that de Almeida had just finished grading the test when she was attacked.
The teacher was taken to the Regional Hospital in Cameta, where she received stitches. Doctors determined that the injury had not caused damage to any vital organs, and she was discharged.
She faces no criminal charges due to her age
As a minor, the 17-year-old is not subject to the same criminal framework that applies to an adult in Brazil. According to attorney Teys Cruz, who spoke about the case, the act could be classified as a serious offense equivalent to attempted murder and could result in the minor student being placed in a special facility.
The Paros Public Education Workers’ Union condemned the attack, emphasizing that violence against teachers is a problem that affects society as a whole.
