Senior Israeli security sources confirmed that the target of today’s attack in the western city of Gaza was Ali al-Amoudi, one of Hamas’s most powerful figures in the enclave and a close associate of Yahya Sinwar. It has not yet been confirmed whether al-Amoudi was killed; however, according to the same sources, it is considered certain that he was in the apartment that was struck.
Al-Amoudi, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, has emerged over the past year as one of the organization’s key figures in Gaza and is regarded by Israeli sources as Hamas’s de facto top political leader in the enclave. He was a close associate of Sinwar, with whom he had formed a bond during their detention in Israel, and was released in 2011 as part of the Gilad Shalit deal.

Before the war, he headed Hamas’s media and communications apparatus, and following Sinwar’s death, his position within the organization’s organizational and political hierarchy was significantly strengthened. At the same time, he is vying for the leadership of Hamas’s political bureau in Gaza against Nizar Awadallah.
Arab sources have also identified him as one of the figures managing critical issues of the post-war period, including Hamas’s stance on plans for the future governance and disarmament of Gaza.
If his death is confirmed, it would be another significant blow to the political and organizational leadership of the terrorist organization, at a time when Israel continues to target officials attempting to rebuild Hamas’s structures in the Strip.
