Another tanker was struck while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, in the third attack to occur in the past 24 hours in that maritime region, the the British maritime security agency UKMTO announced on Tuesday (July 7).
“UKMTO has received a report of yet another incident involving a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel was struck by a drone of unknown origin and sustained minor structural damage. No injuries or pollution have been reported,” the British agency stated.
Overnight, the Al Rekayyat, a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker, sustained serious damage after being struck by a projectile while sailing off the coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. Doha condemned the “unacceptable attack” on the tanker, attributing responsibility to Iran.
In addition to the Al Rekayyat, a Saudi-flagged crude oil tanker was also damaged near the Strait. There were reports that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards fired missiles overnight at ships passing through this strategically important waterway.
