An alarm was raised in the Paris suburb of Sarcelles, home to a large Jewish community, due to a “suspicious” car near the town’s synagogue, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunes said today.

About 300 people were evacuated as a precaution.

Nunes, speaking to the French television channel BFM, said the incident occurred last night.

According to the minister, an investigation is underway, and a “military-grade weapon” was found in the vehicle.

Neither the motive nor the suspect’s identity has been determined.
