Four workers were found unconscious this morning after being struck by a train while performing maintenance work on the tracks, not far from the capital, Tokyo, a fire department official told Agence France-Presse, while the Kyodo News Agency reported that they showed “no signs of life.”

The fire department received a call at 10:47 (local time; 4:47 a.m. Cyprus time) regarding the incident, near a station in the city of Kanuma, 130 kilometers north of the capital.
“When rescuers arrived at the scene, three workers were still trapped under the train, while the fourth was on the platform,” a fire department official told AFP, adding that they were unconscious when they were transported to a hospital.
