Hayden Panettiere, a well-known actress, has passed away at the age of 36, as confirmed by her representative to ABC News.
In a statement, her father, Skip Panettiere, said: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic loss of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought love and joy to everyone who knew her—and to the millions who watched her on screen.”
Her father asked that the family’s privacy be respected “as we try to cope with this unspeakable loss.”
Further details regarding Panettiere’s death have not been immediately disclosed.
Panettiere began her career as a child actress and made a name for herself in both television and film. She is best known for her roles as Claire Bennet in the popular series “Heroes” and as Juliette Barnes in the musical drama “Nashville.”
She has also appeared in films such as “Remember the Titans,” “Raising Helen,” “Ice Princess,” and “Scream 4.”
Panettiere spoke openly about the difficulties she faced from her childhood through adulthood. In May, she released her memoir titled “This Is Me: A Reckoning.”
In her book, as described in the synopsis, she offers “a rare and personal look into her life, discussing postpartum depression, addiction and recovery, trauma, domestic violence, and loss.”
Hayden Panettiere is the mother of a daughter, Kaya Klitschko, whom she had in 2014 with her former fiancé, heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
In an interview on “Good Morning America” in 2022, Panettiere spoke openly about her struggle with alcoholism and depression.
As she said, “I didn’t know where the alcoholism ended and the depression began. And I wore myself out.”
She had previously mentioned that the years following her role on “Nashville” were “difficult,” adding, “The years before that were also very difficult for me. I just needed a break.”
Career and Personal Challenges
Panettiere returned to the big screen, reprising her role as Kirby Reed in the “Scream” film series, which was released in March 2023.
Her brother, Jansen Panettiere, died suddenly in February 2023 from cardiomegaly and complications with his aortic valve, according to a statement from the family. He was 28 years old.
Hayden Panettiere spoke openly about her grief, stating in an interview with People two years after his death: “I will always be devastated by this.”
As she emphasized, “I’ll never be able to get over it. No matter how many years go by, I won’t get over his loss.”
