An alarm was raised on Saturday afternoon (June 27) at Lake Vico in Italy, as the husband of Family Minister Eugenia Rocella, Luigi Cavallari, went missing.
According to ANSA reports, the man was in a boat with his wife when he fell into the lake but did not resurface. It is not yet clear whether he dived in or fell in by accident. The minister herself reportedly alerted the authorities when, around 5:30 p.m., she did not see her husband resurface.
Carabinieri, firefighters, and 118 emergency personnel have rushed to the Fiore area, while police and fire department dive teams are heading to the scene.
Fire department divers jumped directly from the helicopter that arrived in the area and conducted the initial search of the lake, but to no avail. Meanwhile, the minister was escorted to her home in the Viterbo area. At the same time, the Carabinieri helicopter continues to patrol over the lake.
The Deputy Prefect of Viterbo, Andrea Nino Caputo, is at the scene to coordinate the search efforts. Also present are the provincial commander of the Carabinieri, Alfredo Andro, and the police chief, Giorgio Di Munno.
