A few hours before three parallel protest marches are set to begin in Tirana, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama remains steadfast and once again calls on citizens to engage in dialogue. For yet another day, he staged a new public relations stunt in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. Today, he set up a hexagonal stone table with invitations to dialogue, surrounded by red and green cushions on the paved ground.
The protests scheduled for today in Tirana are expected to take place at different times, while, following the violent clashes of recent days, attention is focused on the development and momentum of the rallies
University students and teachers will gather outside the Polytechnic at 10:00 local time and are then expected to begin marching toward the Prime Minister’s Office.
At 12:00, the opposition Democratic Party led by Sali Berisha also announced a nationwide protest in support of the students. In fact, according to party officials, another goal is to protect young people from the police.
At the same time, students are expected to gather at the Ministry of Education, from where a protest march will set off toward “Martyrs of the Nation” Avenue.
As announced, the rallies will be peaceful protests. However, a strong police presence is on standby throughout the Albanian capital, especially near public buildings.
