Following today’s report in the Wall Street Journal stating that Israeli intelligence agencies informed Donald Trump that Iran is planning to assassinate him, the U.S. President, after speaking by phone yesterday with Benjamin Netanyahu, in a post on Truth Social, essentially accepted the relevant information as credible and issued a stern warning to Iran that if, ultimately, he is assassinated, he has already given orders for the U.S. to bomb Iran in a manner that will be unprecedented.

Mixed messages from the U.S.
However, despite the warnings and the war-like atmosphere that has prevailed over the past 24 hours in the Persian Gulf, the messages coming out of Washington remain ambiguous both regarding the course of the negotiations and the implementation of the framework agreement that calls for a ceasefire.
Specifically, in an earlier statement today, President Trump said that “in his view, the ceasefire is no longer in effect.” He added, however, that negotiations could nevertheless continue.

On the other hand, two interesting pieces of information, in the form of leaks, were reported today by CNN. Citing high-ranking officials very close to the White House, the American network reported that the U.S. has no desire whatsoever to involve Israel in the ongoing conflict in the Persian Gulf, as such a development would signal the definitive end of the negotiations. Meanwhile, earlier today, the same news outlet reported that, despite the prevailing climate in the Persian Gulf, U.S. and Iranian officials continue to communicate behind the scenes, making it clear that, in fact, negotiations between Tehran and Washington are continuing.
