U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz part of U.S. territory, in a tone that suggested he was joking, while emphasizing that the U.S. armed forces have complete control over this strategically important sea lane.
“As soon as we stop defeating Iran… I will soon declare the Strait of Hormuz part of U.S. territory,” Trump said with a smile during a speech at a police academy in New York.

“We have the (naval) blockade… No ship gets through unless we want it to,” he continued.
The U.S. president also made sure to mention Venezuela, saying it would be a “one-day war.” The U.S. president emphasized that “we’re now working together wonderfully” and “we’ve received many millions of barrels of oil” from that country.
