A terrifying video from Rize, Turkey, has come to light, showing a road collapsing while construction work was underway on a dormitory.
According to reports by Hurriyet, the shocking incident occurred on Thursday evening near a construction site in the Islambasa neighborhood. In fact, just seconds earlier, a car had crossed the road, and then the cracks appeared.

According to Turkish media reports, the collapse was caused during excavation work for the construction of the foundations. Initially, they report, a retaining wall at the rear of the construction site collapsed, followed by a section of Şehitler Çeşmesi Street, which ran above the wall.
After receiving a report, police, fire department, and Disaster and Emergency Management Authority teams rushed to the scene. To prevent any further danger, the natural gas supply to the street was shut off.
Along with the collapsed road, a martyrs’ memorial in the area was also damaged.

Three buildings were evacuated as a precaution
Due to ongoing ground movement in the area of the collapse, a total of three buildings on the street were evacuated as a precaution, one of which was abandoned. Residents of the two occupied buildings were housed in public shelters.
The relevant teams are continuing their investigations and work to implement safety measures in the area.
Ramazan Ozturk, Provincial Director of Youth and Sports, who visited the area after the incident, stated, “Thank God, there are no injuries. In accordance with the governor’s instructions, AFAD, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, and teams from the natural gas company immediately responded to the incident. “We are evacuating the buildings in the upper section as a precautionary measure against any potential danger. We will accommodate our citizens in public shelters.”
