U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated yesterday, Saturday, that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, would like to reach an agreement to end the warwith Ukraine, which has been raging since 2022, and accused Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy of resisting any compromise.
“Well, I think Russia would like to reach an agreement—and we’ve spoken many times—but Russia would like to reach an agreement (…) however, for one reason or another, Zelenskyy doesn’t want a deal,” the 80-year-old Republican told reporters yesterday, Saturday.

When asked what Mr. Putin told him during their most recent phone call on Friday, Mr. Trump replied by reiterating that “he would like to reach an agreement,” insisting that Putin had expressed a “strong” desire for it.
Earlier, the White House occupant made what many considered a provocative statement that Ukraine needs a “new” leader, against the backdrop of a controversial agreement between Washington-Moscow agreement on exports of diesel fuel from Russia to address what Mr. Trump called the “global problem” of diesel shortages.
