Just like last year, Donald Trump made no secret of his indignation yesterday, Friday, over the fact that he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, saying pointedly that “he has never heard anyone speak” of the laureate, South African judge Navi Pillay, whose award had been announced earlier that day.
“The U.S., represented by me, your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but that did not happen,” Mr. Trump emphasized during his speech in Syracuse (northeast).
“This is an indelible stain on Norway and on those who made this disgraceful and shameful decision. The Nobel Peace Prize has been discredited more than ever by a handful of radical ideologues who are opposed to democracy” and “in reality, enemies of civilization,” he added.
The Republican, who launched a war against Iran in late February, after sending U.S. special forces to capture former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January, asserted once again that he deserved the honor because he had put an end to eight wars—a number that exists only in the U.S. president’s imagination.
The leader of Venezuela’s opposition, María Corina Machado, who received the Nobel Peace Prize last year, handed her gold medal to Donald Trump, judging that he “deserved” it, much to his delight.
This did not, however, prevent the Republican president from announcing various agreements with Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, who had served as vice president under Nicolás Maduro until his ouster.
A consolation for Mr. Trump, if nothing else, was that in December 2025 he became the first recipient of FIFA’s new “Peace Prize” — an honor that his political opponents sharply criticized.
