Ukraine has suspended its drone attacks on oil tankers using a Russian port on the Black Sea, in the city of Navrasisk, following a request made late last month by U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance, the Financial Times reports in today’s edition, citing sources in the Ukrainian government.
According to the report, Washington was alarmed because the attacks were further destabilizing oil markets and hurting American companies, as they targeted tankers carrying crude oil that had been transported from Kazakhstan to a Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal near the Russian port.
The Reuters news agency reports that it was unable to immediately verify the newspaper’s information through independent sources.
However, Bloomberg had reported similar information a few days earlier, noting that the request concerned non-Russian tankers.
