Authorities in Paris have imposed a curfew on all citizens in Place de la République and Les Halles, two areas in the city center that have been the scene of unrest in recent days.

The curfew will be in effect from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (local time; midnight Monday through 7:00 a.m. in Greece).
At the same time, the mayor of Nice and former president of the Republicans, Éric Ciotti, has imposed a curfew on minors in the streets of downtown Nice.
The curfew is in effect from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (in Greece, from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) and applies to the city center.

Similar measures were imposed in Lyon, where the Rhône prefecture imposed a ban on gatherings in the city center from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
“Demonstrations, all processions, parades, rallies, and protest gatherings on public streets” are prohibited, as is “the movement of people, as well as their presence on public streets.”
“Bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and performance venues remain open, while ‘public transportation and vehicle traffic continue.’”
A proposal by Ariel Weil, mayor of Paris’s 1st–4th arrondissements, has caused a stir; speaking to BFMTV, he said he had called “since yesterday [Sunday]” for a curfew to be imposed and “why not the mobilization of the army.”
“It’s not ideal, but since the situation is beyond our control and we don’t have the necessary personnel—and I understand that—we must find ways to prevent looting,” he added.
It should be noted that a prefect in northern France announced that a curfew will be in effect tonight and for the next two nights in four cities.
The curfew applies to the municipalities of Lille, Douai, Vatin, and Denain, covering specific areas of the cities, and will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning (9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Greek time).
The decision was made with the consensus of all the mayors concerned, according to BFMTV.
Meanwhile, the BBC reports that the mayor of the northwestern city of Coulain has imposed a curfew on the city’s youth.
Minors are not allowed to be out after 11:00 p.m. local time (midnight Greek time), he wrote in a Facebook post.
The BBC also notes that his statements follow Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s calls for the imposition of local curfews, as he granted regional mayors greater powers to enforce them.
However, it is unclear what form these curfews will take, as each local authority can impose its own rules. It is up to each mayor to determine how the situation will unfold in their cities, as Lecornu did not declare a state of emergency.
