A fire broke out on a cargo ship in the Black Sea following an attack by a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle that claimed the life of at least one person, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba announced today, while the Ukrainian Navy, for its part, reported “casualties.”
“A strike by an unmanned aerial vehicle caused a fire on a Panamanian-flagged ship. One crew member was killed: a 58-year-old cook of Egyptian nationality,” Kuleba wrote on Telegram, adding that eight sailors were rescued.

The Ukrainian Navy had previously announced that the incident resulted in “casualties” to the cargo ship, the Victress, which was sailing with a crew of nine—citizens of Egypt, Turkey, and India—and can no longer continue its voyage.
According to Oleksiy Kuleba, two other ships flying the flags of Belize and Palau were attacked by Russia last night, with no injuries reported.
