Rise in Violent Incidents at Schools in the Philippines
This is the third shooting incident since June in the southern Philippines, whereas such incidents were previously quite rare.
Last month, a student livestreamed himself shooting and killing another student in a classroom in Zamboanga before taking his own life.
In June, at least three students were killed and about 20 others were injured in an attack at a public high school in Tacloban, where two students opened fire inside the school complex.
The Philippines has relatively strict gun control regulations, including background checks and psychological evaluation requirements, although illegal firearms are still in circulation.
This incident also follows a highly publicized incident in Thailand in August, where a student carried out a mass shooting at a school on the outskirts of the capital, Bangkok.
