Two U.S. Army pilots were killed when an AH-64E Apache attack helicopter crashed yesterday in central Texas, according to an announcement by the military base to which the aircraft belonged.
The helicopter, which was based at Fort Hood, crashed in the Salado area. Authorities confirmed the deaths of both crew members but did not release their identities.
The base did not specify the circumstances surrounding the accident or the mission the helicopter was carrying out when it crashed. An investigation is expected to determine the causes of the crash.
This incident adds to a series of serious aviation accidents involving the U.S. armed forces. In mid-June, eight people were killed when a B-52 bomber crashed shortly after takeoff in California.
